The Denver Obscurantism Society

Obscurantism

Noun: the practice of deliberately preventing the facts or full details of something from becoming known.

The term obscurantism possesses a historically negative connotation, related to anti-intellectualism and the deliberate obfuscation of knowledge. Here at the DOS, our goal is to give Obscurantism a new meaning- one of esotericism and mystique, even a sort of sleek desirability.

The Denver Obscurantism Society, founded in 2023, is a multimedia art collective dedicated to the appreciation of the obscure, the bizarre, and the overlooked. It meets weekly on Saturdays at 7 P.M. near the Cheesman Park pavilion for the purposes of insightful, productive discussion. We not only want to expand our minds through the discovery of extremely unknown media, we also want to create obscure media for the future via artistic collaboration.

Why Denver? Well, if you've lived in Denver for any substantial period of time, you know Denver is one of the world's most bizarre, contradictory cities. It lies at the crossroads of modernity, aesthetic, demographic uplift, and political transgression. Denver itself is pretty obscure. There are secrets this city holds which very few of us have access to. You might say that Denver, by its very nature, is ideal for Obscurantism as a philosophy. There are bizarre external forces at work in the daily life of every Denverite.

We encourage you to join us in our pursuit of forgotten worlds and lost modes of thought. Things will get weird. But then, life itself is weird.
